Doctrinal Statement (What We Teach)

Bible

We teach that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and constitutes the only infallible rule of faith and practice and is the supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct (Matthew 5:18; 2 Timothy 3:15-17; 1 Corinthians 2:7-14; 2 Peter 1:20, 21).

God

We teach that there is but one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 45:5-7; Matthew 28:19; 1 Corinthians 8:4; 2 Corinthians 13:14).

Jesus Christ

We teach that Jesus Christ, the second Person of the Trinity, became man, without ceasing to be God. As both fully God and fully man He lived a perfect, sinless life. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He died upon the cross as a substitutionary sacrifice, and all who believe in Him are justified by His shed blood. His bodily resurrection is also the guarantee of a future resurrection for all believers (Luke 1:35-38; John 1:1; Romans 5:9; Philippians 2:5-11; Colossians 2:9; 1 Timothy 2:5; Hebrews 2:9; 4:15; 8:1; 12:2; 1 Peter 2:24).

Holy Spirit

We teach that the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Trinity, convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. He is the Supernatural Agent in regeneration, baptizing all believers into the Body of Christ, indwelling, sealing, and empowering them for holy living and service (John 14:15-17, 26; 16:13; Acts 1:8; Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 12:4-7; Ephesians 1:13, 14).

Humanity

We teach that humans are created in the image and likeness of God and, because of Adam and Eve’s sin of disobedience, are born with a sinful nature and separated from God (Genesis 1:26; 2:7, 15-25; Psalm 14:1-3; Romans 3:9-18, 23; James 3:9; Revelation 4:11).

Salvation

We teach that salvation is wholly by God’s grace on the basis of the redemption of Jesus Christ, and not on the basis of human efforts or works (John 1:12; Ephesians 1:7; 2:8-10; 1 Peter 1:18, 19).

Church

We teach that all who place their faith in Jesus Christ are immediately placed by the Holy Spirit into one united spiritual Body, the church, of which Christ is the head (1 Corinthians 12:12, 13; Ephesians 1:22; 4:15; Colossians 1:18).

Baptism

We teach baptism is an act of obedience following a person’s profession of faith in Jesus Christ. It is an outward demonstration of saving faith (Matthew 3:16; Mark 1:10; Acts 2:41, 42; 8:36-39; Romans 6:1-11).

The Lord’s Supper

We teach that the Lord’s Supper is the commemoration and proclamation of the death and substitutional sacrifice of Christ and should always be preceded by solemn self-examination (Matthew 26:26-30; 1 Corinthians 11:28-32).

The Second Coming

We teach that Jesus Christ will return to earth in bodily form to judge the living and the dead (Acts 2:29-30; Titus 2:13; Revelation 19:11-16).

Eternity

We teach the bodily resurrection of all people, the saved to eternal life, and the unsaved to judgment and everlasting punishment (Daniel 12:2; John 5:29; 6:39; Romans 8:10-11, 19-23; 2 Corinthians 4:14; Revelation 20:13-15).
